A Huge Destiny 2 Exotic Mission Is Coming Soon, And It's Made Possible By The Game's New Episodes

1 Julio 2024 at 14:27

In the aftermath of The Final Shape, Destiny 2 developer Bungie has taken a new approach to seasonal storytelling. The first "Act" of this new approach--Episodes comprised of three Acts each--has wrapped up its story, but players have noted that the new Episode-based structure doesn't feel all that different to seasons so far. According to Bungie, there's much more on the way, and the new setup is enabling it to build one of its biggest Exotic missions ever, which will release later in 2024.

"We're going to finish some threads off, but we're also going to start opening up some doors to new stories to be told," game director Robbie Stevens said to GamesRadar. According to Stevens, Act 2 will introduce "a completely new set of activities" on top of the new Breach Executable activity and will take players deeper into Nessus as the planet transforms. Act Three will see a new Exotic mission debut, one that Stevens described as being an ambitious step forward for Bungie.

"We have an Exotic mission coming in Echoes Act Three," Stevens said. "It is one of the biggest Exotic missions we've ever built, and it's only possible because of this new content cadence. The ability for us to build this massive Exotic mission--literally one of the biggest--it wouldn't have been possible in the past. This is where we see the [development] team taking the opportunity, their willingness to change, their willingness to adapt to this new cadence with us, and really seize the opportunity to expand Nessus, expand this world."

George R.R. Martin Offers Cheeky Response To Elden Ring Film Rumors

1 Julio 2024 at 13:33

While he may be focused on Westeros, author George R.R. Martin might be looking at bringing The Lands Between to the silver screen in the future--or even the small screen. The man famously known for Game of Thrones had quite an intriguing reply about the scuttlebutt regarding an Elden Ring movie.

Spotted by IGN, Martin wrote on his personal blog about a possible Elden Ring film unprompted. "Oh, and about those rumors you may have heard about a feature film or television series based on ELDEN RING... I have nothing to say," he said. "Not a word, nope, not a thing, I know nothing, you never heard a peep from me, mum mum mum. What rumor?"

From Software president Hidetaka Miyazaki got the ball rolling when he said "there's interest" in making a film adaptation of Elden Ring. Miyazaki added that they would need a "very strong partner," and Martin definitely fits that criterion as a producer on HBO's Game of Thrones and House of the Dragon. Plus, for those who don't remember, Martin helped out on Elden Ring.

Zelda-Themed Nintendo Switch Controller For Handheld Mode Gets Big Discount

1 Julio 2024 at 13:28

Hori's The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom-themed Split Pad Pro is on sale for $48 at Amazon. Normally $60, this special-edition iteration of Hori's Joy-Con alternative with superior ergonomics is part of Amazon's current slate of Lightning Deals. As such, quantities are very limited, so you shouldn't wait long to snag one if interested.

Hori Split Pad Pro - Tears of the Kingdom edition
Hori Split Pad Pro - Tears of the Kingdom edition

The Hori Split Pad Pro is GameSpot's current pick for best Switch controller for handheld-focused players, and for good reason: it gives you a full-sized, ergonomic controller experience in handheld mode. The buttons, the sticks, triggers, and D-pad are all much larger on the Split Pad Pro than they are on the stock Joy-Cons. So considering how cramped the standard Joy-Cons are, especially if you've got big hands, the ergonomics of the Split Pad Pro are a big relief.

On top of that you've got two remappable buttons on the back, and a turbo function. It lacks vibration and NFC support for Amiibo, though, and you can only use it in handheld mode--they don't work as motion controllers or as solo Joy-Con for multiplayer.

First Hellboy: The Crooked Man Trailer Is Full Of Death, Demons, And Big Guns

1 Julio 2024 at 13:14

The first trailer for Hellboy: The Crooked Man has gone live, and this time, Mike Mignola's famed comic-book character is headed to the American South to take on sinister forces in the Appalachian mountains. 12 Strong's Jack Kesy dons the signature duster and right hand of doom for this new adventure starring Hellboy, and the first trailer teases a film much creepier than previous Hellboy movies.

Imagine if Hellboy and the Bureau for Paranormal Research and Defense wandered into one of Sam Raimi's Evil Dead movies, and you'll have a good idea of what to expect in the trailer following its reveal on Entertainment Weekly.

Set in the 1950s, Hellboy: The Crooked Man is based on the comic-book mini-series of the same name and sees the BPRD agent tracking down a dangerous demon collecting souls for the devil. This is the first Hellboy film since 2019's reboot bombed at the box office, ending any chances of a sequel being greenlit.

Stunning First Images Of Gladiator 2 Show Paul Mescal And Pedro Pascal Fighting To The Death

1 Julio 2024 at 13:02

The first images from the highly anticipated Gladiator 2 have arrived, and they are stunning. The images from the Ridley Scott-directed movie show star Paul Mescal looking shredded as he prepares for battle in a variety of settings. One of the most incredible photos shows Mescal going toe-to-toe with Pedro Pascal's character in what looks to be a battle to the death.

The photos were posted by Vanity Fair, and you can see snapshots below. But be sure to visit the site for the full high-res images and other key details.

Mescal plays Lucius in Gladiator 2. You might remember him as the little boy who stood in shock and awe as he witnessed the events of Russell Crowe's Maximus dying in the middle of the Colosseum. He is the son of Lucilla, who is set to come back in the sequel, too, with Connie Nielsen reprising her role. The movie also stars Denzel Washington and Joseph Quinn.

Nintendo Has A Simple But Effective Plan To Stop Switch 2 Scalpers

1 Julio 2024 at 12:19

Nintendo has a plan to combat the potential scalping of its Switch successor: one that boils down to making certain that there are enough units available to satisfy demand when it's eventually released. In a Q&A session during a shareholders meeting, Nintendo President Shuntaro Furukawa explained how the company will take on the reseller market.

"As a countermeasure against resale, we believe that the most important thing is to produce a sufficient number to meet customer demand, and this idea has not changed since last year," Furukawa said (translated via IGN). "In addition to this, we are considering whether there are any other measures that can be taken to the extent allowed by laws and regulations, taking into account the circumstances of each region."

At the start of the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, Switch consoles became sought-after items. The global semiconductor shortage in 2021 saw supply shrink, but echoing previous statements regarding availability, Furukawa added that Nintendo is anticipating that it'll have enough stock to combat scalping.

Metal Gear Movie Is Still Coming, Producer Gives Promising Update

1 Julio 2024 at 12:12

A movie based on the Metal Gear Solid game series is in the works, and has been for many years, but how is it coming along now? Producer Ari Arad gave a promising update recently, saying he expects people to be happy about how it turns out, if it gets made.

"We're working on the script some more, but I can't talk about it yet," he told Brian Crecente's Game. "I think everyone's going to be really excited and surprised. I think getting Metal Gear right will obviously be amazing because I think it's a lot more meditative than some of the other adaptations. Personally, I want it to be terrific."

The script has been in the writing process for some time, it seems. In 2017, Jurassic World's Derek Connolly was reported to have written a script for the film. Then in 2022, actor Oscar Isaac, who was at one point attached to play Solid Snake, said the team was still trying to find the story.

The Biggest Game Releases Of July 2024

30 Junio 2024 at 05:00

We're officially in the second stretch of 2024, and this is where the release schedule starts to pick up some momentum. Interestingly, July is shaping up to be a month where live-service games are in the spotlight. You have the new Final Fantasy 14 expansion, Dawntrail, launching on July 2 alongside Nexon's The First Descendant, and just two days later, Genshin Impact developer Hoyoverse launches Zenless Zone Zero.

Beyond a trio of games jockeying for your valuable attention, there are also some good-looking smaller games on the horizon. Slaycation simulator Dungeons of Hinterberg balances dungeon-exploration with socializing at a resort set in the Alps, Anger Foot will let you reboot crime in its ugly face, and Flintlock: The Siege of Dawn brings a gun to a sword fight.

Originally scheduled to launch on July 25, Frostpunk 2 has been delayed to September 20 so that developer 11 Bit Studios can address feedback it received from the recent beta and add more features. "We know this is not the news you wanted to hear," the studio explained in a Steam blog post. "However, we believe these additional features are something you deserve to see in-game on day one, not in a patch added after the release. We can only hope you understand that our decision comes from a place of wanting to create the best game possible for you."

For more in July, you can see the rest of the highlights below, and for a broader look at the rest of the year, you can check out 2024's upcoming game release dates.

Final Fantasy XIV: Dawntrail

  • Release date: July 2
  • Platforms: PC, PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S

July starts off strong with the next expansion for Final Fantasy 14, as players can head off to the tropical island of Yok Tural for a brand-new storyline. Two new playable classes--Pictomancer and Viper--will debut in Dawntrail, the level cap has been raised to 100, and numerous other tweaks are being made to Final Fantasy 14's fifth expansion. Xbox fans of the franchise will also get to experience the expansion, following the long-awaited launch of Final Fantasy 14 on Xbox Series X|S consoles back in March.

The First Descendant

  • Release date: July 2
  • Platforms: PC, PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One

It's a pretty big month for free-to-play games, and The First Descendant isn't wasting any time as it sprints out of the release gates. This stylish loot-driven action game from Nexon looks like it'll appeal to Destiny and Warframe players, and is set on Albion, a planet under threat by a seemingly unstoppable army of invaders. As a Descendant, you'll use your unique abilities and firepower to drive back the Vulgus before they conquer the continent of Ingris.

Zenless Zone Zero

  • Release date: July 4
  • Platforms: PC, PS5, iOS, Android

After finding great success with its fantasy- and sci-fi-themed games like Genshin Impact and Honkai: Star Rail, Hoyoverse is headed to the streets next with Zenless Zone Zero. A game where Cyberpunk meets Persona, Zenless Zone Zero is set in New Eridu, a vast city where the last of humanity lives after an apocalyptic event brought our species to the brink of extinction. Monsters called Ethereals terrorize the locals, and players will create powerful avatars called Hollows to help keep New Eridu safe in this free-to-play game.

Anger Foot

  • Release date: July 11
  • Platforms: PC

If you're in the mood to kick some ass--quite literally--Anger Foot will grab your attention with its glutes-and-shoot action. It's up to you to stomp out crime as you take on an army of gangsters, clearing out slums, sewers, and skyscrapers along the way. When you're not putting the boot to gangs, you can dress your lean and mean kicking machine with some pretty sick kicks.

Aerial_Knight's We Never Yield

  • Release date: July 16
  • Platforms: PC, PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One

Set in a futuristic slice of Detroit, Aerial_Knight's We Never Yield is a 3D runner that's all about speed, reflexes, and vibing to the beat of a cool soundtrack. After launching on PC in May, the endless runner is sliding onto PC and console this month.

Bo: Path of the Teal Lotus

Release date: 17 July

Platforms: PC, PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Switch

For the metroidvania fans, Bo: Path of the Teal Lotus looks like a game to keep an eye out for this month. Dungeons of Hinterberg

  • Release date: July 18
  • Platforms: PC, Xbox Series X|S

Who says a vacation has to just be relaxing? In Dungeons of Hinterberg, you can explore the Alps and slay some monsters before you head back to your chalet for a hot mug of cocoa. There's a fun gameplay loop of daytime action and forming relationships at night, while the colorful visuals and charming art style make this game an instant attention-grabber. If you're an Xbox Game Pass subscriber, it'll be available through that subscription service on launch day.

Flintlock: The Siege of Dawn

  • Release date: July 18
  • Platforms: PC, PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One

What happens when you mix God of War with Elden Ring and throw some guns into the mix? You get Flintlock: The Siege of Dawn, a cool-looking blend of ideas from Ashen developer A44. In a world where the gods are jerks, the only way to successfully pull off some deicide is with a gun and a little bit of divine help. Embrace vengeance, gunpowder, and magic if you want to show the gods who's the boss in this upcoming Souls-lite action game. This will be another day-one release through Xbox Game Pass.

Nintendo World Championships: NES Edition

  • Release date: July 18
  • Platforms: Switch

A compilation of NES-themed minigames focused on speed, Nintendo World Championships: NES Edition looks like it could be a blast from the competitive past. There are over 150 minigames spanning 13 different NES titles, including Super Mario Bros., The Legend of Zelda, and more. While the game can be purchased digitally, the physical edition looks great as it comes with stickers, art, and a replica of the golden 1990 Nintendo World Championships cartridge. At $60, that's a lot more financially palatable than the authentic version which sold for an absurd amount of cash a decade ago.

Deluxe edition

EA Sports College Football 25

  • Release date: July 19
  • Platforms: Xbox Series X|S, PS5

Who's ready for some football? EA is, as this year's entry in EA Sports College Football is full of school spirit. We've seen some fantastic samurai games released over the last couple of years, but Capcom is aiming to be the most fantastical of the lot. Set in a mythical land full of monsters and gods, Path of the Goddess sees you play as Soh, a masked warrior who protects the villages around Mt. Kafuku. Switch 2 Needs Backwards Compatibility, And Luigi's Mansion 2 Shows Why

29 Junio 2024 at 13:00

Nintendo has gained a reputation, and not unfairly, for double- or even triple-dipping on its beloved catalog of classic games. From Super Mario All-Stars on Super NES, to the Classic NES Collection on Game Boy Advance, to modern HD remasters like Metroid Prime and Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door, Nintendo has never been shy about capitalizing on its history. As we move into an increasingly digital era, Nintendo has also been noticeably slow to adopt a single, cross-generation digital library akin to PlayStation and Xbox. We've seen lots of speculation over whether Nintendo will finally break this trend as it moves into the era of the Switch successor--and recent remasters like Luigi's Mansion 2 HD show why it's so necessary that the company follows through with this pro-consumer move.

Luigi's Mansion 2 HD is a remaster of a 2013 3DS game, and a pretty good one at that. I enjoyed revisiting the 3DS game on a modern system and felt it was paying homage to its history. But it's precisely because this appealed to me as a historical artifact that I couldn't help but think about what it means for my digital collection. Luigi's Mansion 2 is, so far, the middle chapter of a series that has already grown past it. It's nice to have the game unshackled from the 3DS, but that won't matter if its destiny is just to get shackled to the Nintendo Switch instead.

To be blunt, Luigi's Mansion 2 is good but slight. It's an enjoyable little chapter and a neat way to see how the Luigi's Mansion series has developed, but it's lower on the tier list of vital remasters than games that are older, more in need of modernization, or just difficult to find. The mere existence of an HD remaster of Luigi's Mansion 2 shows how Nintendo is filling its release calendar, which is a fine strategy as the Switch lives an especially long time for a console. And it's far from the last. At its June 2024 Nintendo Direct, the company announced a remaster of Donkey Kong Country Returns, a game that was already ported to the 3DS shortly after its initial release on the Wii and is now making the journey to Switch.

Best Controller Deals Ahead Of Prime Day - Switch, PS5, Xbox, And PC Discounts

28 Junio 2024 at 22:11

Amazon Prime Day 2024 is just around the corner, running from July 16-17. As always, the event will be a great time to stock up on video games and gaming gear. We expect big Prime Day controller deals to pop up this year, but plenty of popular gamepads are already on sale in the weeks leading up to the event.

Whether you're shopping for PS5, Xbox Series X, Switch, or PC, there's a discounted gamepad for you to check out. The easiest deal to recommend is for the standard Xbox Wireless Controller, as a variety of colors are seeing generous price cuts right now. For something fancier, you'll find discounts on both the Elite Series 2 and Elite Series 2 Core.

Over on PS5, the Nacon Revolution 5 Pro is your best choice, as it's a pro-grade controller that offers more bells and whistles than the base controller. There aren't any great DualSense deals right now, but that could change as we inch closer to Prime Day.

A myriad of Switch controllers are discounted ahead of Prime Day, including both Joy-Con and Pro Controllers. And if you're playing on PC, be sure to check out one of the many 8BitDo controllers up for grabs, including the 8BitDo Ultimate Bluetooth Controller With Charging Dock.

Plenty of other controller deals are running ahead of Prime Day, and we've listed our favorites below. Once you're done, be sure to check out our Amazon Prime Day hub for even more deals.

Xbox Wireless Controller Deals | Xbox, PC, iOS, Android

The standard Xbox Wireless Controller is one of the best on the market. With an ergonomic design, responsive buttons, durable construction, and support for Xbox, PC, and mobile, it's a great all-around gamepad. Several variants are on sale ahead of Prime Day, giving you a chance to add a new one to your collection for cheap.

Xbox Elite Series 2 Core (Red)

$96 ($140) | Xbox, PC, iOS, Android

If you're looking for an Xbox controller with a few additional features, consider the Elite Series 2. It features enhanced rubberized grips, hair trigger locks, and support for three custom profiles, a nice upgrade from the standard controller. This version also looks great, as its faceplate is coated in a gorgeous red.

Xbox Elite Series 2

$151 ($180) | Xbox, PC, iOS, Android

The Xbox Elite Series 2 is about as fancy as Xbox controllers get. Not only does it include rubberized grips, hair trigger locks, and custom profiles, but you can also swap out thumbsticks, D-pads, and back paddles to fit your personal needs. The current price is one of the best we've seen this year, and we're not sure how much lower it'll go during Prime Day.

Nintendo Switch Joy-Con Controllers (Switch, PC, iOS, Android)

Nintendo Switch Joy-Con are notoriously expensive, carrying a usual price tag of around $80. A handful of models are on sale at Walmart right now, including popular colors like Neon Blue & Neon Yellow and Neon Pink & Neon Green. They work flawlessly with Switch, but you can also pair them to PC and mobile via Bluetooth.

Nintendo Switch Pro Controller | Switch, PC, iOS, Android

Both the standard Switch Pro Controller and the eye-catching Switch Pro Controller: Tears of the Kingdom Edition are on sale. Both are fulfilled by Walmart, and you'll even get free 30-day returns with your purchase. These gamepads don't often go on sale, so be sure to check out the price cuts while you can.

ASUS ROG Raikiri Controllers

Two versions of the ROG Raikiri are up for grabs, both of which are officially licensed for Xbox. The first is the standard Raikiri, featuring back buttons, adjustable trigger depths, remappable buttons, and customizable joystick sensitivity. The other model is the Raikiri Pro, which gets you all the above plus a built-in OLED to help manage all your settings.

Nacon Revolution 5 Pro

$175 ($200) | PS5, PS4, PC

The officially licensed Nacon Revolution 5 Pro is built specifically for PS5, though it'll work with PS4 and PC. It features Hall Effect joysticks for added longevity and a unique D-pad great for fighting games. The futuristic-looking controller is supported by an app for remapping buttons and modifying profile settings.

SteelSeries Stratus+ Bluetooth Controller

$28 ($60) | Android, PC

If you're looking for an affordable gamepad for Android gaming, the Stratus+ is a solid choice. The full-sized controller gets a staggering 90 hours on a single charge, comes with a detachable phone mount, and is equipped with Hall Effect triggers for a premium feel. You'll even get clickable analog sticks, giving you a few other input methods for all your favorite games.

8BitDo Ultimate Bluetooth Controller With Charging Dock

$52 ($70) | Switch, PC

This deal is only available to Prime members, but it brings the popular controller down to one of the best prices of the year. Along with an included charging dock, the gamepad features Hall Effect joysticks, two back paddles, rumble support, and a 22-hour battery life. It'll work with Switch and Steam Deck via Bluetooth or the 2.4GHz adapter, while PC requires either the 2.4GHz adapter or USB cable.

8BitDo Ultimate C Wireless Controller

$24 ($30) | PC, Android

It's not as fancy as the Ultimate, but the 8BitDo Ultimate C is a solid choice if you're working with a budget. It offers rumble vibration, a turbo function, and a comfortable anti-slip texture to help you keep your grip during long play sessions. Add 25 hours of battery life and an ergonomic design, and you've got a great gamepad for the price.

8BitDo SN30 Pro Bluetooth Controller

$40 ($45) | Switch, PC, Android

Want a controller with a retro flair? Then the SN30 Pro needs to be on your radar. It looks much like the old SNES gamepad, though it comes with modern features like rumble, support for motion controls, and both Bluetooth and USB-C connectivity. Its transparent design is also quite striking, and it should look great in most game rooms when not in use.

8BitDo Ultimate 2.4G Wireless Controller | PC, Android, iOS

Prime members can cash in on a deal that gets them the 8BitDo Ultimate 2.4G Wireless Controller (Genshin Impact) for cheap, while everyone else can enjoy a nice price cut on the pink variant. Both include a charging dock, Hall Effect joysticks, and work with PC, Android, and iOS.

Hori Split Pad Compact | Switch

Dune 3 May Be Coming Out In 2026, Next Monsterverse Movie Gets 2027 Release Date

28 Junio 2024 at 21:43

Although nothing has been officially confirmed, it's starting to look like Denis Villeneuve's Dune 3 may hit the big screen in December of 2026, and a new MonsterVerse movie is being slated for 2027.

Thanks to a Deadline report, we know that Warner Bros and Legendary Entertainment are securing a December 2026 date for Villeneuve in hopes that it'll be for Dune 3. But it's worth mentioning that Villeneuve is still working on the script and locking in talent for the series' third installment. That being said, Villeneuve has previously said that Dune 3 would be his last film in the series.

This isn't the only upcoming collaboration between the director and the film company; Villeneuve will also partner with Legendary Entertainment on Nuclear War: A Scenario, which is based on a book detailing what would happen if a nuclear war were to break out.

GMG's Huge Game Sale Includes Some Better Deals Than Steam's Summer Sale

28 Junio 2024 at 21:12

Thousands of PC games are discounted at Green Man Gaming during the Sizzling Sale, including hits like Dragon's Dogma 2, Elden Ring, Horizon Forbidden West, and even Kingdom Hearts Integrum Masterpiece (the full series). The sale is open to everyone, though GMG XP members will see additional savings on select titles--making this a good time to sign up. Many games that aren't seeing additional XP discounts can be dropped an additional 15% with promo code SIZZLE15.

The Sizzling Sale is just one of numerous notable PC game sales running right now. Most notably, Steam's annual Summer Sale kicked off this week. But before you make purchases on Steam, we'd recommend checking to see if Green Man Gaming or Fanatical has the deal for a better price. Fanatical's Red Hot Sale includes over 8,000 game deals, the majority of which are delivered as Steam keys. GMG's sale also includes a significant number of Steam games. Both Fanatical and GMG have better prices on some games--so it's definitely worth comparing first. Elsewhere, GOG is running its own summer sales event with big discounts on DRM-free PC games.

28 Junio 2024 at 20:09

Megan Thee Stallion is here to save "hot girl summer" with her new self-titled album, Megan. But on top of giving all the hotties out there a new reason to celebrate, the Grammy award-winning rapper is also throwing some love to one of her favorite forms of media: anime.

In her new track, "Otaku Hot Girl," the noted anime fan uses a sample from Jujutsu Kaisen to kick things off. She then follows this up with Yuji Itadori's English voice actor, Adam McArthur, delivering a new take on his famous quote, "I'm into girls like Jennifer Lawrence":

"I like tall women with a nice big a**," McArthur starts. "Just saying'. Like Grammy winner Megan Thee Stallion."

Elden Ring’s DLC Difficulty Discourse Is Getting Old | Spot On

28 Junio 2024 at 20:04

After two years, Elden Rings' highly-anticipated DLC, Shadow of the Erdtree, is finally here. But despite Elden Ring's high praise and nearly universal acclaim from critics, the DLC currently rests at a 70% positive on Steam--and that's after a significant jump up from its former rating. So, what happened?

Upon release, many players realized that the game's newest region, the Realm of Shadow, was filled to the brim with tough enemies. Like, extremely tough enemies. From Software's games are no stranger to difficulty discourse--just Google the origin of the well-known phrase "get good." But this time, players are review bombing the studio's latest title for being too difficult. Yet on top of the DLC being intended to challenge players the way Elden Ring did back in 2022, we can't help but be a bit frustrated that From Software is more well-know for its games' difficulties rather than, well, just about everything else the studio does.
