Sony has now officially confirmed its range of Black Friday discounts across PS5 consoles, PSVR2, games, accessories, and more. They all begin this Friday, 22nd November and run until 2nd December 2024. While the new PlayStation Blog post doesn't actually confirm it, PS5 systems are expected to be $70 off for the sale period.

What is announced is 25 per cent off PS5 DualSense controllers, and a 40 per cent sale on PSVR2. You shall be able to access these deals on both the official PlayStation Direct website and participating retailers.

A Chinese hardware leaker who goes by zhangzhonghao has posted some supposed information about Sony's next-gen PlayStation consoles, which are already rumoured to be a handheld machine as well as the expected PS6.

Sony sends "letter of intent" to Kadokawa.

Kadokawa Corp has responded to yesterday's reports of interest from Sony regarding a potential takeover by confirming it has received an "initial letter of intent" from the company. In a newly issued statement, Kadokawa added "no decision" has been made as to whether it'll go through with the acquisition or not.

It reads in full: "There are some articles on the acquisition of Kadokawa Corporation (hereinafter 'the Company') by Sony Group Inc. However, this information is not announced by the Company. The Company has received an initial letter of intent to acquire the Company's shares, but no decision has been made at this time. If there are any facts that should be announced in the future, we will make an announcement in a timely and appropriate manner."

Putting the block in blockbuster.

A Minecraft Movie made its big debut a couple of months back with the first official teaser trailer, and it didn't go down very well. While it's obviously aimed at a younger audience, fans of the perpetually popular sandbox game weren't convinced by this live-action adaptation, but this latest trailer shows more promise.

Starring Jack Black as Steve, the character's origin story is revealed here — how, in his youth, he yearned for the mines, and as an adult dug so deep that he found a portal into the Minecraft world. It's all very silly and light-hearted, which is of course the right direction for a family flick.

PS Plus Premium users beta test the feature.

Sony has announced the most significant PS Portal update since the handheld streaming device launched: a fresh beta test will allow for cloud streaming of PS Plus games. Current PS Plus Premium members can beta test the feature, with it set to launch worldwide within the next 24 hours. You'll be able to stream "over 120 PS5 games" at up to 1080p in 60 frames-per-second, and your save data will all be automatically synced with your PS5 console so you can easily switch between the two.

The cloud streaming beta will be available in all the same countries where PS Plus Premium is, and to activate it, look for the new "Cloud Streaming (beta)" toggle in the settings menu on your device. Once selected, a new option should appear on the PS Portal's home screen that'll allow you to access the PS5 titles available for cloud streaming.

Lockdown mode coming soon.

We feel a bit sorry for Need for Speed Unbound; it launched back in December 2022 with almost no fanfare at all, despite being arguably the best game in the series in years. Still, while it's flown way under the radar, it's quietly been receiving great post-launch support all this time, with the next big update coming very soon.

The Vol. 9 update introduces Lockdown, a PvPvE multiplayer mode inspired by Need for Speed: Most Wanted (2005). It's a sort of extraction mode, where teams of three players compete against each other to "complete Contracts, break into Lockup areas, navigate the treacherous Lockdown Zone, and secure the Extraction truck".

A new Dragon's Dogma 2 datamine has supposedly unearthed some interesting details regarding potential plans for the open world RPG. While these tidbits don't necessarily mean that significant updates are incoming, they do suggest that the developer was at least considering one or two eyebrow-raising additions.

The headline act here is the mention of multiplayer. Translating from Japanese, the file text refers to something called 'Tower of the New Moon' as a specific multiplayer mode.

Towers of Aghasba is one of those projects that's always looked incredibly promising — but it seems to have flown under the radar somewhat. You may recall that it was actually featured in last year's PlayStation Showcase, where it was announced for PS5.

Well, today's the day: Towers of Aghasba is now available in early access. Just to be clear, it costs $29.99 / £29.99 on Sony's system — it's not a free-to-play release, with developer Dreamlit already outlining a lengthy post-launch roadmap.

Game has sold 2 million worldwide so far.

The Farming Simulator series is quietly very popular, and there's evidence of that in the UK's latest physical games chart. Farming Simulator 25 recently released on PS5, and it's made a debut at number six; just under half of those physical copies sold were for Sony's console.

This decent start lines up with a recent worldwide sales update from Giants Software, which tells us the game has sold over 2 million copies in its first week.

Lorelei and the Laser Eyes has been nominated in the Best Indie Game category at The Game Awards, and between now and then, PS5 and PS4 players will get the opportunity to play it for themselves. Swedish developer Simogo has announced ports of the unique puzzler will arrive on 3rd December 2024, and you can catch a new trailer above.

This appears to be the same version as the base game that launched on Nintendo Switch and PC earlier this year, with no additional content or features. As we described it when the PEGI age ratings for the PS5, PS4 ports went public last week, Lorelei and the Laser Eyes is a bit like classic Resident Evil without all the combat and enemies. It places the focus on solving eccentric puzzles throughout a vast mansion; this is the type of game where it's best to keep a pen and paper nearby so you can keep notes on what you find. This is all done with a very unique art style to boot.

Got Soul.

Ahead of its PS5 and PS4 release in just a few short weeks, we've been handed a quick glimpse of gameplay from Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver 1 & 2 Remastered.

As you'd expect, this reworking of the duology — which was originally split between the PS1 and PS2 — looks like a solid upgrade in the graphical department. The resolution's obviously been given a huge boost and higher quality assets have been installed.

Looking at 3-4 million units for 100% ROI.

Remedy has shared an inside look at the budgeting and lifetime goals of creating Control 2, as it states the future game is working on a roughly €50 million budget and will need to sell between three and four million copies to improve on its investment costs. The game is a AAA action RPG, which going by traditional genre standards, represents a slight shift in focus for the sequel.

While the first game certainly had an action focus, it lacked most of the elements and features you would consider part and parcel of the RPG genre. This suggests Remedy could be pushing deeper into such mechanics as it works on the follow-up.

Widely regarded as one of the greatest Final Fantasy games, talk of a Final Fantasy 6 remake has been floating around for years. In particular, the epic RPG is an obvious candidate for Square Enix's trademark 'HD-2D' overhaul, given its 16-bit origins.

And guess what? Dragon Quest 3 HD-2D Remake producer Masaaki Hayasaka completely agrees. Speaking to Inverse, he's asked if there are any other 2D RPGs that he'd love to see be remade in the HD-2D style.

London calling.

It's a good day to be a fan of Assassin's Creed Syndicate. The London-based excursion, which released all the way back in 2015 for the PS4, is finally getting a PS5 update. Out this week and weighing in at around 750MB, the patch doubles the title's frame rate when played on PS5 and PS5 Pro via backwards compatibility. That's a jump from 30 to 60 frames-per-second, just to be clear.

Proper PS5 support has been a hot topic amongst diehard Syndicate fans for a long time, so it's nice that Ubisoft has eventually delivered. You may recall that the publisher updated Assassin's Creed Odyssey for PS5 several years ago, and did the same with Assassin's Creed Origins a little later, in 2022.

In case you missed it, Elden Ring expansion Shadow of the Erdtree has been officially nominated for Game of the Year at next month's The Game Awards 2024. And guess what? The DLC's inclusion has sparked a substantial backlash across social media, Reddit, and even the comments sections of sites just like Push Square.
