Kadokawa Wants Sony's Full Commitment with Buyout of Entire Company

27 Noviembre 2024 at 13:00

Or not at all.

One of the biggest stories in games right now is Sony's potential acquisition of Kadokawa Corporation. In a new report from Bloomberg, it's claimed that the two companies have been in talks about a buyout for years.

According to the report, the pair has been back and forth on a deal for a long time, with the main issue relating to the extent of Sony's purchase. Kadokawa apparently wants Sony to purchase the entire company or not at all, while the tech giant has attempted to be more selective, only looking to secure its business in anime and video games.

27 Noviembre 2024 at 12:30

In addition to Helldivers 2 PS5 pad.

A black PS Portal is rumoured to be part of a PS5 accessories refresh that Sony has planned for the near future. A new report from Dealabs insider Billbil-Kun suggests the current PS Portal model will soon be available in a black colourway, and will retail at the same price as the design already on the market now. They claim this will be a limited launch, so you may face an upwards battle trying to pre-order one.

Elsewhere in the report, Billbil-Kun states "other hardware and accessories seem to be in the works at Sony", and they'll be released "very soon". They say they don't have enough "verified information" for a full report yet, however.

27 Noviembre 2024 at 08:00

Good news, straight from Night City.

Fans of the excellent Cyberpunk: Edgerunners are sitting pretty, with CD Projekt Red today confirming a partnership with Netflix to produce another animated project set in the world of Cyberpunk 2077. We have to assume it will be something separate from Edgerunners, however, as CD Projekt has not confirmed another collaboration with Studio Trigger.

The news comes to us by way of the Polish firm's latest financials (thanks, VGC), with chief financial officer, Piotr Nielubowicz revealing the exciting news: "I’m also very happy to announce that we’re working on another animation project set in the Cyberpunk universe, which will be released on Netflix." VGC reminds us that CDPR and Netflix did release a mysterious teaser back in September, which you can check out below.

Indiana Jones PS5 'By Far' Machine Games' Biggest Undertaking

27 Noviembre 2024 at 05:00

Several Indy movies worth of cinematic cutscenes.

Wolfenstein developer Machine Games has revealed that the upcoming, once Xbox-exclusive Indiana Jones and the Great Circle will be the studio's biggest project by quite a margin. With almost four hours of cinematic cutscenes alone, that's like two Indiana Jones films on top of a very generous shooter. It's reputedly longer than Wolfenstein 2: The New Colossus, which clocks in somewhere between 11 and 17 hours, depending on the level of completion.

The news comes to us via an interview with MinnMax and Indie creative director Axel Torvenius (thanks, GamesRadar+). In the fast-moving interview, Torvenius didn't reveal an exact hour count for the Great Circle but did stress that: "By far, this is the biggest and longest game that Machine Games have ever done."

Infinity Ward's Turn in 2026, Sledgehammer Games in 2027, Says Call of Duty Insider

27 Noviembre 2024 at 04:00

2025 remains a mystery.

As everyone is still glued to Black Ops 6, it might seem too soon to start looking ahead to future releases, but the voracious Call of Duty beast never rests. According to a known series insider, Sledgehammer Games will reportedly lead development on 2027's inevitable Call of Duty release. This same leaker expects that 2026's release will be Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4, developed by Infinity Ward.

That's what The Ghost of Hope says anyway (thanks, PSU), and the leakster made the bold prediction on X, and that it's possible 2027's game could end up being Advanced Warfare 2. We'll admit to not being up to date on the developmental machinations of Activision's studio structure, but it is quite fascinating to us that virtually nothing is known about the next Call of Duty, expected in 2025. In a reply, The Ghost of Hope says: "Nobody knows who owns , but every studio is working on it. Pretty odd".

Devolver's Delayed Awards May or May Not Go Ahead Later Today

27 Noviembre 2024 at 03:00

Devolver Digital reserves the right to delay the show until the very last moment.

Chaotic video game publisher Devolver Digital is allegedly holding its 15th Annual Devolver Delayed Awards 2024 today, 27th November. If the show does go ahead, viewers can look forward to "the only awards show recognizing those heroic developers with the courage and determination to delay their game into the next fiscal year." Devolver reminds us what a wild ride 2024 has been and teases: "This year’s esteemed nominees are some of the most prestigious and anticipated groups we’ve seen in years. Our panel of experts were surely put to the test to select just one winner."

We predict that, if nothing else, Devolver will bring out its unsettling, long-time mascot, Volvy, to make us all feel deeply uncomfortable.

Cyberpunk 2077, Phantom Liberty Make Bank for CD Projekt Red with Impressive Sales Figures

27 Noviembre 2024 at 02:00

Night City royalty.

Cyberpunk 2077's deeply disappointing launch is just a blip in the rearview mirror at this point, and while we certainly won't forget, we're hopeful for the studio's future. According to CD Projekt Red's recently posted financials, that future is looking bright indeed; Polaris, colloquially known as The Witcher 4, has entered full production, and Cyberpunk and its excellent expansion, Phantom Liberty, together are approaching a very impressive 40 million copies sold.

CD Projekt revealed the happy news on X, and we really are a long way from that memorable day when Sony pulled Cyberpunk from the PlayStation Store. Then, lest we forget, it was completely missing in action for over six months, in a debacle the likes of which we may never see again (hopefully). Anyway, the breakdown is 30 million copies of Cyberpunk 2077, buttressed by another 8 million copies of Phantom Liberty, an impressively sticky attach rate of 26%.

As the Switch Closes in, Sony Confirms PS2 Sold 160 Million Units

26 Noviembre 2024 at 21:30

Up from the 155 million previously assumed.

For over a decade, the PS2’s official sales total sat at 155 million units, as Sony stopped reporting sales of the system in 2012. It was always assumed the final number was higher, as the console wasn’t officially discontinued until a year later, and there would have been leftover inventory that filtered its way into the retail chain. But we never knew the final figure until recently.

In an off-the-cuff comment during the Official PlayStation Podcast, ex-CEO Jim Ryan said the system had sold 160 million units, and that number’s now been confirmed as part of a 30th Anniversary retrospective on the brand’s website.

26 Noviembre 2024 at 20:00

Voxel-based Alterra in the works.

A publisher as big as Ubisoft always has a lot on the go at once, much of which is known, so it's always interesting to hear about something we weren't expecting. In a new report from Insider Gaming, it seems the company is hard at work on a game called Alterra.

Citing anonymous sources, the site claims the game shares much in common with Nintendo's Animal Crossing — each player has a home island inhabited by critters called Matterlings. You'll be able to visit other islands; each will be in a different biome and feature different Matterlings, resources, enemies, and so on.

Pro-fessional opinions.

The PS5 Pro is almost three weeks old at the time of writing this article, having released on the 7th November — and we think it's time to weigh up our early thoughts on Sony's supercharged system.

At $700 / £700, the Pro's pricing still makes our eyes water, even though we've been playing games on the thing for the best part of a month. But has the console been able to justify its undeniably expensive price tag yet? That's a question we hope to answer with this Talking Point.

Remedy Still Working on Alan Wake 2 PS5 Pro Patch Enhancements

26 Noviembre 2024 at 15:00

As normal PS5 update goes live.

A new Alan Wake 2 update has been deployed today on PS5, though you won't find any PS5 Pro-specific enhancements in its patch notes. Remedy has said it needs more time to research "a few things on the Pro when it comes to improved performance" as the update available at the PS5 Pro's launch made the Performance Mode worse than it is on the base console.

Addressing the PS5 Pro performance issues, Remedy said on Twitter: "The PlayStation 5 update (1.200.005) does not contain anything PlayStation 5 Pro specific, but we wanted to acknowledge that we are seeing your feedback. We are still researching a few things on the Pro when it comes to improved performance. We'll keep you posted. As PS5 Pro support was a work of many months, it will take the team longer than a few weeks for changes and improvements."

This game promises unparalleled aquatic realism, as you plunge beneath the waves of a variety of biomes and interact with the wildlife. All of the sea creatures look meticulously rendered, and the game has a hyper-realistic look to it, which will surely pop on the PS5 headset’s display.
