Star Wars Battlefront 2 Massively on the Up as Fans Return in Droves

Suddenly more popular than ever before.

Thanks to this month's May the 4th celebrations, the new season in Fortnite, and the second season of Andor, it looks like Star Wars fans are really feeling the Force at the moment, and have decided to return to Star Wars Battlefront 2 in their droves.

The multiplayer-focused title from 2017 is experiencing a significant resurgence, with player tracking charts spiking on PC, PlayStation, and Xbox. SteamDB reveals players began returning to the game just after 4th May, and it's been gaining popularity ever since. The PC version is peaking at just under 10,000 concurrent players, which isn't far off the game's all-time highest player count from over four years ago.

With Senua's Saga: Hellblade 2, Gears of War: Reloaded, and The Outer Worlds 2 already announced for a PS5 release later in the year, Microsoft's multi-platform efforts are now in full swing. One of the long-rumoured Xbox to PS5 ports is Starfield, and according to new claims, the Bethesda RPG is still on track to come to PS5 this year.

NateDrake, a reliable leaker who has been very accurate in the past when detailing the PS5 ports Microsoft has planned, said on Twitter that the intent is for Starfield to be confirmed for Sony's current-gen system this year. Then, when the big reveal does take place, they "expect the gap between announcement and release to be minimal".

Capcom’s big screen Street Fighter adaptation, which it’s cooking with Legendary Pictures, is eyeing the Minecraft movie’s Jason Momoa and WWE’s Roman Reigns to join its cast. Other actors on the list include Andrew Koji (Bullet Train) and Noah Centineo (Warfare).

It’s not clear who Momoa is being coveted to play, although there are heavy rumours linking him to the role of Blanka, the green skinned Brazilian from Street Fighter 2.

Video game movies are big business these days, and Bandai Namco will be putting its faith in esteemed production house A24 and English director Alex Garland to bring Elden Ring’s artistry to the big screen.

The flick has been rumoured for some time, but Deadline has now confirmed the project is in production, following the recent release of Garland’s acclaimed military epic, Warfare. Game of Thrones author and Elden Ring contributor George R. R. Martin will help produce the movie.

It's Over! FTC Drops Its Case Against Microsoft's Activision Buyout

Earlier this month it was reported the Federal Trade Commission was still fighting Microsoft's Activision Blizzard buyout and it wasn't going so well. Now, in perhaps the last significant development, the FTC has officially dropped its case against the tech giant.

“The Commission has determined that the public interest is best served by dismissing the administrative litigation in this case. It is hereby ordered that the complaint in this matter be, and it hereby is, dismissed."

Rematch Open Beta Kicks Off on PS5 Next Week, Here's Everything You Need to Know
