Is anyone interested in creating a hand prosthesis? My friend was born without fingers, and I want to help her

She is 24 years old and missing 8 fingers.

She has never had a functional prosthesis. High-quality prosthetics like those from Naked Prosthetics are extremely expensive—around $7,500 per finger, and she needs 8, which is simply unaffordable.

I’m wondering if anyone would be willing to help by 3D printing a prosthesis for her. It could be a great opportunity for you to gain experience and add to your portfolio. She’s happy to try the prosthesis and provide as many photos and videos as needed. I would cover the shipping costs.

I don’t have any knowledge of 3D printing or a 3D printer myself, but I’ve attached a reference picture. Even though she’s missing 8 fingers, having just 2x2 (index and middle fingers) per hand would make a huge difference for her.

These are her hands - please be aware the picture may be disturbing:

Thanks for any help and tips 🥺

I designed a nightstand myself - finally something suitable for my bedroom

I designed a nightstand myself - finally something suitable for my bedroom

After a long search for a suitable nightstand, I decided to design and print a suitable nightstand for my bedroom myself. The offers on the Internet are often boring or too expensive. After 44 hours of printing time, 9 printing plates and 1.9 kg of pla, my designed nightstand was finished. The dimensions are 40 cm long, 20 cm wide and 25 cm deep. What I really like is the full extension of the drawer, which cost me a lot of nerves to construct. In total, the print cost me €38.06 with materials and pla. What do you think of the design? Would you hang something like this in your bedroom? Have I ever designed and printed furniture? If so, show me some pictures, I would be very happy✌🏻

Designed this mini pinball to relax... it had the opposite effect.

Designed this mini pinball to relax... it had the opposite effect.

This was my entry to a "Mini Arcade" contest, and I thought it would be a small weekend project. I grossly underestimated how long this would take.

What started as a “quick weekend project” somehow spiraled into weeks of modelling, prototyping, tweaking tolerances, and wondering why I didn’t pick another hobby. And weeks later, now I have a mechanical, mini pinball machine with (very satisfying) flickable flippers, and a curved ball return tube that serve no real purpose other than looking cool (and making me redesign them four times). Worth it.

Laser marking on 3d printed parts.

Laser marking on 3d printed parts.

It works every good on SLA print. But it looks equally good on FDM after painting.

What I have done for this part - print in SLA - painted with black - laser marking on 3d

And good to go

Largest, Longest, Best Print yet

Largest, Longest, Best Print yet

While I know its relatively simple in its design, I printed this 8.5x8.5x7.5inch air filter cover out of PETG-CF for friend of mines whipple coyote swapped fox. They have issues washing out the MAF when the rad fans kick on and/or road wind. Posted in the ender3 group the other day before install but here it is done. literally my first print with this filament, no testing. First few layers laid down nice so I let it ride out. 125mm/s, 240c nozzle, 80c bed. 11 hour print and it came out almost perfect. Should add that my ender3 v3 is in a non climate controlled garage in Indiana's current climate of 90F & 70% humidty. this filament impressed me.

The laziest smart garage opener – a 3D-printed box that just presses the button

The laziest smart garage opener – a 3D-printed box that just presses the button

I designed and printed this small enclosure that holds an ESP32 and a servo motor.

The idea is simple: the servo physically presses the button on my garage door remote. The ESP32 hosts a basic web interface I can access via WiFi to trigger it – useful when I forget the remote or want to open the door from inside the house.

The case was printed in PETG and is compact enough to fit next to the garage receiver. It includes a simple mount for the servo and a slot for the remote.

Right now it only works on my local network, but I’ve also hooked it into iOS Shortcuts via HTTP, so I can trigger it with Siri.

Future improvements: better enclosure design, maybe OTA config, and eventually proper Home Assistant or Google Home integration.

Finally got my second Fusion design working - a fully 3D printed gumball dispenser with ratchet mechanism!

Finally got my second Fusion design working - a fully 3D printed gumball dispenser with ratchet mechanism!

I wanted to share my second "completed" design after starting to learn Fusion 360. It's a fully 3D printed gumball dispenser with a working ratchet mechanism that only allows the knob to turn clockwise.

The hardest part was definitely the ratchet. My first attempt at a traditional ratchet and pawl setup was too small to work reliably with just printed parts. I eventually solved it by creating a single, flexible "spring-gear" that combines the spring and pawl into one piece.

My original plan was to also add a coin slot so the knob could only be turned when a coin is inserted, but that got a little too complicated for my current skills. That will have to wait for version 2. Any ideas for simplifying coin mechanism designs?

The ball holder would look a lot better with transparent filament, but I didn't have any on hand at the moment.

This could be a perfect gift for dispensing candy or something small. Food safety with 3D prints can be a concern, so It's probably best to use individually wrapped sweets or use a food-safe coating on the parts if you plan to use it with unwrapped treats.

I've uploaded the model files if anyone wants to check it out or print their own. I'd love to hear what you think!
