I designed and 3d printed a vintage lens rehousing that optimizes it for cinema production
![]() | New 3d printed rehousing (case) design So a while back I posted a 3d printed lens rehousing, since then I’ve designed my own, the new design is a 95mm diameter, 82mm filter and has focus and aperture marks in both sides and different colours, the finish still isn’t perfect but it’s the best I can get it now So for some context vintage photography lenses are very sought after in the cinematography world, they offer a cheap alternative to modern cinema lenses and can offer “character” that is sought after, for example the Dune movies and the Batman was shot on “re-housed” Soviet photography lenses True rehousing is dissembling the lenses and reconstructing it in a new body as well as doing some optical corrections, now this is a service that can cost thousands per lens and wait times are years from the few companies that do so This design is more so a “case” that slips over the original lens and offers almost nearly identical performance with out any dissembling. Again not a true rehousing but it offer nearly the exact same function I plan to do this to my super takumar 105mm f2.8, with matching aperture and focus gears and also a 95mm diameter and 82mm filter Planning to do this to the 35mm, 24mm and 85 mm and have a full takumar prime kit for a fraction of buying a brand new cine prime kit [link] [comments] |
