I needed to strain out particulates from cool cooking oil

I needed to strain out particulates from cool cooking oil

It worked great! It’s not food safe, and can’t be used with hot oil, but it worked great for what I needed to do. Next time I’d like to use some cheese cloth as a pre-filter because I think the coffee filter was getting clogged, but a few swipes with a spoon started things moving again.

Needed a shovel, printed a shovel

Needed a shovel, printed a shovel

Needed a shovel thats could fit a proper amount of soil for potting. So I did what every sane person would do and printed the biggest (and still usable) shovel I could fit on my bed. Link to model: https://makerworld.com/en/models/1281360-big-shovel-for-potting-plants-or-scooping-dog-food

Hydrofoil surf fin

Hydrofoil surf fin

I had the random idea to design my own hydrofoil fin prototype one night… so I whipped out sCAD and started messing around with airfoils. Imported STL to slicer, tweaked parameters, sent a PLA prototype to my printer and went to bed.

Woke up at 5 am to apply a quick coat of varnish for good measure, then drove to my local surf break.

As you can see in the first photo, I attached the fin to my longboard with some finesse (PLA was a bad choice even with varnish coating). Second photo is the full printed piece.

Feels like a softer standard longboard fin… it has a nice glide to it. Maybe could work well for node riding?

This is just a beta - I plan to experiment with more prototypes. I also had the urge to whip up a little page where I could mess around with [NACA airfoil shapes](foil.olelohonua.com). It’s definitely a work in progress… but given the state of other tools I felt compelled.

Let me know what design I should try next!

Cabinet locks

Cabinet locks

We always seam to find more doors and drawers that need baby locks on them. Store bought ones cost more than they should. Strap printed in TPU. Anchor PETG. Sized for command hook double sided tape, which is much easier to remove than the store bought locks.

Now I can pump out as many as I need as I need them.

Bowl holder add-ons for cat house using wooden PLA

Bowl holder add-ons for cat house using wooden PLA

I have a heated cat house to take care of some local stray cats. I printed these attachments out of matching colored wooden PLA to hold some food bowls for them. (They're coated in UV resistant clear spray paint to protect against weathering).

The gray box on the left side is a 3D printed PLA box to hold the remote for the heater and keep it from being ruined by the weather.

The models are not my own, here are the STLs:

Wall Standoff Mount Bracket

Wall Standoff Mount Bracket

Hey all! Just wanted to share this free model I made. thought it might be useful for anyone mounting things onto walls. It’s a simple standoff mount that works on both drywall and wood, perfect for brackets, shelves, and more.

It prints fast, uses minimal material, and works with drywall anchors or directly on wood. If you need to swap out stuff often, this is ideal. For flush mounting, just embed the bracket into the surface.
