License plate plinth

License plate plinth

Needed a short plinth to mount a shorter-than-normal (but legal!) license plate to the front of my car and wanted to use the existing screw holes in the bumper from the old large plinth. Scanned the bumper since the curves were quite complex. Learned a fair bit with the process (which I have not yet perfected) and would probably do it differently next time, but got there in the end and I’m really happy with the perfect fit. Printed in ASA, so it should withstand the UV and temps.

It always breaks at the worst possible time 😩

It always breaks at the worst possible time 😩

You’re in a rush, and suddenly the cat litter scoop snaps.

That happened to me. And honestly, it wasn’t the first time.

So I did what I usually do when something frustrates me, I redesigned it from scratch.

Most scoops on the market are made of thin plastic. Lightweight? Yes. Durable? Not really.

I wanted something stronger, something that lasts without overcomplicating the design.

It started with a quick hand sketch. Then I modeled it in SolidWorks and printed the first version on a 3D printer.

To my surprise, it turned out even better than I expected.

(And judging by the photo, my cat seems to approve too 😺)

I’ve quietly shared the model with a few people who enjoy 3D printing, and it’s been rewarding to see others find value in something that began as a personal fix to a small, annoying problem.

It made me wonder:What’s one everyday item you'd love to quietly reinvent?

Hex bit storage container

Hex bit storage container

So I designed this little bit holder the other day and I’m pretty happy with how it turned out. Most of the store bought ones I have are either annoying to remove and replace the bits, the bits fall out and rattle around, the lid pops open in my tool bag and everything falls out or are just flimsy garbage. I just have one inner tray design at the moment, but it’s removable so it can be switched out for other hole arrangements or dividers. I think I’m going to make something similar now for my 1/4” router bits. If you want one for yourself, it’s free to download on MakerWorld. Just look up my profile there, JB Custom Designs.

Skidsteer halogen light panel replacement

Skidsteer halogen light panel replacement

I do feel like an idiot, took out the seat belt light, forgot it needed the height to make up for the missing spot.

But. Lights are brighter, and so far the ones you want to light up, do, and the onsles you don't want to, don't. So it's a temp win? Haha

Designed a fan for your belt - for a breeze under your shirt when it's hot

Designed a fan for your belt - for a breeze under your shirt when it's hot

Hi everyone,

I recently went to italy and the heat was unbearable so I looked up fans that can be attached to your belt that pump a fresh beeze under your shirt. All existing ones are way to big, inconvenient or expensive. So here ist my take with a small USB-turbine from amazon.

It is powered via Powerbank qnd I'm already working on an extension with a small tube to get the air exactly where you need it.

The design is with a printed clip, but as this ist the prototype I just went with a laundry clip as v1.

Wahoo twist mount to ball socket for Magsafe charger for indoor bike trainer

Wahoo twist mount to ball socket for Magsafe charger for indoor bike trainer

I spend a lot of hours on my bike on and indoor trainer. I decided to combine the wahoo twist mount to a ball socket phone mount adapter. That way I can use a Magsafe charger for my phone while I am on my trainer. Since I am on my trainer all of my biking stats are on a TV that is running zwift. So I don't use my bike computer and can use the wahoo mount to have my phone in front of me.

Dealing with a filament tangle accidentally ended up making a more compact version of this vacuum holder I designed:

It prints standing up, so after the tangle (middle piece in the second photo), I cut out the printed part and printed the rest and ended up with an almost equally functional print, haha!

Flower pot holder for shutters

Flower pot holder for shutters

These aluminium shutters serve no purpose for us. So we bought a couple of pots with holders, but we already had some pots without. For these, I made this holders. As someone who has no technical background, it was a challenge...
And yes, they do hold ;-)

3D Printed case for Pixel 3XL and wireless keyboard - NetHunter C-deck Project

I’ve always been a fan of clamshell palmtops, and this design transforms a Google Pixel 3 XL into one using a wireless keyboard and a custom clamshell case.

Cat food bowl holder with lever-actuated lid

Cat food bowl holder with lever-actuated lid

Inspired by the discontinued "Cat Flip" bowl. I have a big cat and a small cat. The small cat is always stealing food from the big cat. My goal is to train my big cat to use the lever, then add resistance springs; tuned so that only my big cat weighs enough to open it.

I know there are RFID tag bowls, but I like the idea of a purely mechanical solution.
