“Surrogate Switch” to assist with replacing networking equipment

“Surrogate Switch” to assist with replacing networking equipment

It’s a niche need, but when replacing line cards in chassis switches at my workplace, there is sometimes not enough slack in the Ethernet cables to fully remove the cards (so that you can unplug/replug the cables into the same location to ensure you are plugging specific cables into ports with the proper configuration, and/or so they match documented locations). I designed these modular panels that slide together with a dovetail joint so you can link together as needed, and the faux Ethernet ports securely hold each cable (with a satisfying click!) in place until you are ready to relocate it to the new hardware.

It’s a relatively simple project with little appeal to the broader community, but getting those cables to click in securely really gave me a satisfied feeling.

Hook for the air hose to my laser engraver.

I know it's not much and nothing compared to some of the other stuff I've seen on here, but man, I just don't think I'll ever get over how cool 3d printing really is.

You need a thing, and 30 minutes later you have the thing. 14 year old me in the mid 90s would have lost his mind over this kind of technology being accessible to the average consumer.

The future is a pretty cool place to be
