Super Nintendo World's Donkey Kong Country Brings Pure Joy To Epic Universe

It was late 2020 when Universal Studios Japan first let guests inside its Super Mario World area of the park, with rides and a slew of minigames based on the Super Mario franchise. Unlike most theme-park experiences, this one was about collecting coins and stamps, competing against fellow visitors, and aiming to top the leaderboard. A pared-down version opened at Universal Studios Hollywood in 2023, cementing the idea that Universal was continuing forward with the gamification of its theme parks. In May, the company's newest theme park, Universal Epic Universe, will unveil its own Super Nintendo World--complete with a Donkey Kong Country section.

GameSpot was recently given the chance to tour Epic's new Super Nintendo World and, of course, to play in it. While those who have visited Hollywood's Super Nintendo World will find parts of this new Florida location familiar, the land has been completely redesigned and is much larger. Not only does the latest iteration bring in the Donkey Kong Country ride and mini-land that opened in Japan last December, but it also brings the beloved Yoshi's Adventure dark ride. More importantly, though, it brings new challenges and ways to play in the land--and more coins to earn.

The rides

The standout of the new land is the Donkey Kong Country rollercoaster, Minecart-Madness. Imagine blazing through one of the minecart levels from the video game franchise. That's what you're getting with Minecart-Madness, which is not a traditional rollercoaster. Instead, it's made to simulate the feeling of being in a minecart that jumps from track to track as it avoids peril at all costs.

Among Us Crew Have Have Arrived In What The Car For New Crossover

Developer Triband has partnered with Innersloth once again to create a new crossover for What the Car that brings the Among Us crew to the game. The free update, called Car-Mong Us, is available now on Apple Arcade and Steam.

The What the Car patch brings a new overworld to the game, which is inspired by the Skeld. For those unfamiliar, that's the iconic spaceship from Among Us. Additionally, there are new skins for the car based on the Among Us crewmembers: think red, blue, yellow, and green. The update also introduces four new minigames and three new courses to race on.

This isn't the first time Triband has worked together with Innersloth. A couple of years ago, there was an Among Us collaboration for What the Golf. This might not be the end of crossovers for What the Car either, as Triband asked on Steam for feedback on "which game we should shove inside our own game next"?

SpeedRunners 2: King Of Speed Announced For 2025 Release

It's been almost 10 years since beloved indie platformer SpeedRunners was released, and now publisher TinyBuild has revealed a sequel set to revive the classic formula. SpeedRunners 2: King of Speed is coming to PC via Steam this year, with a console release following in 2026.

Sometimes called the "Mario Kart of 2D platformers," SpeedRunners saw players racing through lovingly crafted 2D platformer levels, running, jumping, climbing, and sliding their way to victory and collecting power-ups to gain the upper hand. SpeedRunners 2 will return to the same formula, though this time will support up to 8 players per lobby.

Players can choose from a cast of superheroes, with some new characters and others making their return from the original 2016 title. As they race through retro-futuristic levels, players can collect upgrades and items to get ahead of the pack or knock their competitors off screen, as the competitors scramble to survive in an ever-shrinking ring of fire.

Path Of Exile 2 Patch Notes: Monster Nerfs Arrive After Much-Disliked Updated

A number of Path of Exile 2's promised balance changes have gone live, after a recent update that has been incredibly unpopular with fans. The update saw PoE2's recent reviews on Steam dip into the dreaded "mostly negative" category, and the devs have been quick to address issues raised by fans. You can see the latest batch of patch notes below.

First and foremost in the latest patch, which is live now, are a number of nerfs to speedy monsters to prevent players from feeling overwhelmed. The changes have been applied individually based on monster behaviors--some monsters have had annoying abilities removed, some will now only walk instead of running until the player moves a certain distance away from them, while in some cases the number of monsters in an area has been decreased.

The devs note that not all the intended changes have made it into this patch but promise they will be coming with future updates. These include an issue causing inconsistent monster spawn density between different rooms, and further changes to monster behavior that will require new animations.

Fed Up With Switch 2 Scalpers, Nintendo Fans Are Fighting Back

Like most sought-after devices, there has been some concern that the Switch 2 could end up in the crosshairs of scalpers ahead of its launch in June. While some people are already attempting to sell the console at a higher price on sites like eBay, Nintendo fans are stepping in to report these listings en masse.

On the Nintendo Switch 2 subreddit (as spotted by GamesRadar), there are numerous posts detailing the war on scalpers. Currently, eBay's rules state that an item may not be sold unless it can be shipped out within 40 days, and at the time of writing, 55 days remain between now and the Switch 2 launch on June 5. Nintendo fans have been reporting these listings as soon as they pop up, and the subreddit is full of tips and tricks detailing how people can help out.

Back in February, Nintendo spoke about its preparations for the Switch 2 launch, including taking all "possible measures" to discourage scalping. "We will take all possible measures based on the experience we have accumulated to date," Nintendo president Shuntaro Furukawa said back then. "We are making preparations."

Game Pass Gets Another Day-One New Release With 5v5 Soccer Game Rematch This June

Game Pass Ultimate subscribers got some big news, as it was confirmed that both The Alters and Rematch are coming to the service at launch, both arriving in June.

The Alters, an ambitious survival game, hits Game Pass on June 13, with Sifu developer Sloclap's soccer game Rematch debuts on Game Pass on June 19. It's also coming to PS5 and PC.

Rematch separates itself from other soccer/football games in that players do not control an entire team but instead just one person on a five-person side. The game uses a third-person camera and is set 40 years into the future. There's no offsides or fouls, and the ball never goes out of play because matches take place inside a cage. Check out the trailer above to see the game in action.

Great-Looking New FPS Void Breaker Just Started An Open Test On Steam

In 2022, solo developer Daniel Stubbington released the Portal-like puzzle game The Entropy Centre through his Stubby Games label. Now, Stubbington has announced that his next game, Void Breaker, is entering an open test right now. And judging from the announcement trailer below, this is one great-looking first-person shooter.

The trailer begins on an ominous note by mentioning that machines will only follow "the rules we set--until they learn to set their own." According to the game's description, the player characters are at the mercy of an "all-seeing, hostile AI" that forces them to fight and die in an endless cycle of death and rebirth. The one thing that the AI didn't count on is that the players' characters may be able to break that cycle with customized weapons and unforeseen tactics.

As demonstrated in the trailer, players can modify their weapons into engines of chaos and the entire environment can be brought down around them. Destruction isn't literally the name of the game, but it's definitely a big part of the gameplay experience.

Duskfade Looks Like The Jak And Daxter Spiritual Successor You've Been Waiting For

This week's Triple- Initiative covered a wide range of genres, but for anyone looking for a retro-inspired platformer, then Duskfade was likely the star of the show for them. Currently in development at Weird Beluga Studio, Duskfade is set in a world that has become enshrouded in an eternal night. As Zirian, a young workshop apprentice, players will set out to restore time itself in this "clockpunk" world, which the studio describes as a love letter to action-platformer classics of the past.

Weird Beluga says that the game is designed to be a heartfelt tribute to the golden age of 3D action-platformers, while also providing players with a deeply emotional story. "Our game takes inspiration from Jak and Daxter and Ratchet and Clank, with movement that has been designed to feel agile and fast," lead programmer Tomás Manzano Sobrido explained on the PS Blog. "Flow is a core focus, and we want players to feel like Zirian is gliding through the world, chaining actions seamlessly and covering large distances without losing momentum."

How An Incineroar-Themed Pokemon Card Deck Possibly Saved This Person's Life From Gunfire

Usually people play with Pokemon trading cards or collect them. But apparently they can save your life by blocking an actual bullet. That's reportedly what happened for a Florida resident, as a neighbor's gunfire was stopped by an Incineroar-themed deck of Pokemon cards.

A Reddit user shared how Pokemon cards saved their life, saying that they "now count Incineroar as my guardian angel Pokemon and have never been happier to have piles of cardboard in my box." The writer, who goes by LolaInSlacks88, says they were sleeping on a Sunday last month when a "series of explosions" awakened them. Apparently, their neighbor in the country shot a 9mm bullet into their house that was ultimately stopped by the Pokemon deck. They believe that if not for the cards, the ammo could have hit them in bed.

Even with the pictures, some people were skeptical about this story. To back up their claims, LolaInSlacks88 shared a photo of their police report from the scary incident that has since been deleted. GameSpot cannot confirm the authenticity of this story, though we did see the police report before it was removed from Reddit.

Minecraft Meets Pokemon In Anime-Inspired Tomo: Endless Blue

Onibi Studio--a newly founded game studio featuring industry veterans who worked on titles such as World of Warcraft, Baldur’s Gate 3, Fortnite, and League of Legends--has announced its first game. Tomo: Endless Sea is an anime-inspired, open-world action-RPG in which players will get the chance to tame mysterious creatures named Tomo, craft various contraptions, and explore a procedurally generated oceanic world known as Endless Blue. The game will also support online multiplayer, and is labeled as an MMO, in addition to its other genres. Tomo: Endless Blue is currently scheduled to release sometime in 2026.

Alongside its announcement, Onibi Studio shared a first-look at Tomo: Endless Blue in an adorable trailer that turns shockingly dark in its final moments. In it, two characters approach an island aboard a flying whale-like creature that is seemingly an island itself. The pair catch their first Tomo before delving into the ocean below, swimming to shore, and starting off on their own adventure on the voxel island. Throughout the entire trailer, an original song composed by Cécile Corbel--best known for her work on Arrietty--and sung by Ai Higuchi of Attack on Titan fame, plays. As for what happens next, well... you can see for yourself:

Though Minecraft-meets-Pokemon is an apt comparison for Tomo: Endless Sea, the studio has also expressed great emphasis on what sets it apart, such as the game's physics. On Tomo's Steam page, Onibi Studio wrote, "Blocks have physics and can be used to create vehicles and contraptions. Whether it's a boat, crane, or airship, build your own machines block by block--with your creativity, the possibilities are endless." Additionally, the Endless Blue will include other features, such as arenas, ancient ruins, and "vibrant, bustling worlds that feel truly alive." Villages, their architecture, culture, stories, quests, dialogues, and people are all dynamically generated, according to Onibi, in an attempt to ensure no two locations are the same.
