A Useful New PS5 Welcome Hub Widget Is Rolling Out to Some Users in Beta

PS5's Welcome screen is what greets you each time you log into your console, and it's remained mostly unchanged since its introduction — but it seems Sony is readying a brand new widget.

Some users, presumably those signed up to PlayStation's beta program, have received an update to the Welcome hub, adding a new widget to the page.

Alien: Rogue Incursion Drops PSVR2 Requirement with Evolved Edition on PS5 This September

Alien: Rogue Incursion is a solid PSVR2 action horror title, telling an original story in the beloved sci-fi universe. In an effort to put the game in front of more people, developer Survios has announced Alien: Rogue Incursion Evolved Edition, which is a regular, non-VR PS5 version of the game.

Details are thin on the ground at the moment, but what we currently know about Evolved Edition is that it's a reimagined rendition of the game that you can play on your TV, no VR gear required.

Yuri manga Young Ladies Don’t Play Fighting Games – which has been running since 2020 and has accumulated eight volumes to date – is getting an anime adaptation from Diomedéa later this year, and Capcom has signed on to make Street Fighter 6 the star of the series.

A live action web drama was previously released for this comic, where Street Fighter 5 replaced the fictional fighting game in the manga, but it makes sense to refresh the story with the franchise’s most recent game.

Already controversially available on GBA – where manufacturers Limited Run Games and Retro-Bit Gaming have been criticised for using recycled cartridge componentsShantae Advance: Risky Revolution will belly dance to PS5 and PS4 later this summer.

For those of you who don’t know, this game was originally in development all the way back in 2002, when a GBA demo was made and pitched to publishers. But after poor sales of the GBC version caused companies to pass on the project, WayForward eventually shelved the project, until it was resurrected in 2023.

Majority satisfied with linear story.

There was an outpouring of support for developer Hangar 13 this week when it announced that Mafia: The Old Country would ditch its open world, and focus on a “linear, narrative-driven” gameplay experience instead.

Historically, publishers like Take-Two would have probably tried to hide this detail, but as games have gotten bigger and more time consuming, there’s an increasing demand for simpler, shorter experiences.

We know we keep saying this, but Trails in the Sky 1st Chapter really does look fantastic.

A full-blown remake of Falcom's classic 2004 RPG — which made its way from PC to PSP in 2006 — the developer's rebuilt the title in its entirety, placing it alongside the much more recent Trails games as a fully 3D adventure.

Death Stranding 2: On the Beach’s story could be almost double the length of its predecessor, with a plot that could take you up to 75 hours to finish.

At least, that’s if estimations from Eurogamer.net’s preview are accurate. The site writes that during a recent hands-on session at Kojima Productions’ futuristic Tokyo office, it was given the opportunity to play the game for a full 30 hours, which represented approximately 40% of the plot.

Where Microsoft has stumbled, Sony's got a lot of things right over the last couple of console generations — but one area where PlayStation fans would love to see an improvement is backwards compatibility.

At the time of writing, said trailer has racked up an absurd number of views, and generated more "here's everything you missed" articles than you could ever possibly care to read. To be fair though, it is a pretty cool trailer, and gives us a more complete picture of GTA 6's direction and tone than ever before.
