I bought the Sunlu Mystery box for 199 so you don't have to. Do NOT buy!

I bought the Sunlu Mystery box for 199 so you don't have to. Do NOT buy!

Do not recommend anyone to buy this as it doesn't seem like they are actually trying to provide you with value with these limited mystery boxes. More info below.

This is the one I bought and all the items have now arrived. FDM Printing Mystery Box | Premium Pack (199)

What were my expectations?
I rolled the dice to see if there is more value offered for these limited mystery boxes. I was hoping for the S4 and some filament and the rest I didn't care too much about. I also expected to get at least 199 worth of some decent items.

So what did I get?
3x High speed PLA white (11.63)
3x High speed PLA black (11.63)
1x PLA+ Silk white (14.54)
1x PLA glow in the dark (22.30)
2x filament connector device (48.50 x 2)
1x Magnetic Build Plate set (12.60)

Total MSRP value: 216.22

My thoughts about the actual value.
With mystery boxes I would expect them to actually provide a bit more value then the price of the mystery box. I expect this because there is enough margin for them to do so and mystery boxes are a way to basically promote your brand as well. So in the end, if they don't lose money by providing things closer to their cost, it's a great way to generate some excitement.

So how do I feel about the items I got?
More then half of it seems like a way for them to get rid of some stock while not losing any money over the MSRP. Not even cost.
Why would I get two filament connectors? I have no needs for these....
Build plate are meant for a SUNLU Terminator 3, though it could be semi used with other printers....
The filament... I have no need for high speed filament at all. Are they dumping some in here to get rid of some stock? Who knows.

In the end I feel like I got a dump box of (semi)rejects instead of a cool mystery box.

Do you agree? Do you disagree?

Cats causing the spool to bind up. Any ideas?

Cats causing the spool to bind up. Any ideas?

I used to have a piece of layered cardboard on top to spread the weight and it didn't sag enough to touch.

Over time it's sagged to the point we are at now. I've since removed the cardboard in a hope that they'll sit far enough forward to not touch.

Could train them to not hop on obviously, but its a multi-year habit for them at this point.

I'm not gonna lie I've always kind of liked them chilling on top but obviously my extruder gears have a different opinion.

Any ideas? Block it off? Add supports?

Thanks!

Smart Plant Pot: 3D Printed, Arduino Based

Smart Plant Pot: 3D Printed, Arduino Based

I designed and 3D printed this smart pot primarily for bench top herb gardens and indoor ornamental plants.

The smart pot automatically waters the plant whenever moisture drops below the configurable threshold.

It has built in waterproof capacitive soil moisture sensor, peristaltic pump, arduino nano as the brains of it, LCD display, and buttons for adjusting the settings.

As much as possible is hidden inside the pot and the cartridge, so the finished product looks neat and tidy sitting on a bench.

All the code and STL files are already available on GitHub for anyone who wants to build one. The plan is to open source everything.

The code and designs are modular so should allow for remixing and customising, and even reusing parts of it for completely different projects. The irrigator cartridge on the side can be easily removed and swapped for other devices, or customised versions.

I'm publishing info about the project including links to code and STL files (on GitHub) on this page: https://ultiblox.org/devices/smart-pot/

Parts list and assembly instructions are coming soon.

I'd like to get feedback, ideas, suggestions, and it would be great to see how people customise and remix it.

What ideas do you have for the next version of the smart pot? Does anyone want to build one? Let me know if you need some guidance.
