Experimenting with Precision in My Latest Print!

Just finished up a project that required some serious precision, and I’m blown away by how well it turned out! The details and functionality are on point, especially with parts that need to rotate smoothly and lock into place. It’s fascinating to see how a 3D printer can handle even the smallest adjustments with such accuracy. If you’re into designing tools or gadgets that need precise movement and measurements, it’s definitely worth exploring similar projects.

Happy printing!

Tips for Creating Smoother 3D Prints

Hey everyone,

I’ve been diving into 3D printing lately and found some tricks that really helped me get smoother prints. Thought I’d share them in case they’re useful for you too!

  1. Pick Good Software: Use solid 3D modeling tools like Blender, Tinkercad, or Fusion 360. They make a big difference in your model quality.
  2. Check Your Mesh: Make sure your model doesn’t have any gaps or overlapping parts. Most 3D software has features to help you spot and fix these issues.
  3. Reduce Polygon Count: Keep your model’s polygon count in check. Too many polygons can complicate things, but don’t cut corners on important details.
  4. Smooth Shading: Use the smooth shading option in your software to give your surfaces a cleaner, smoother look.
  5. Do Test Prints: Before committing to a final print, do a test run. It’s a great way to catch and fix any problems early on.

What are your go-to tips for smoother prints? I’d love to hear what works for you!

Happy printing!

Just wrapped up a cool 3D printing project and I'm thrilled with the results! The precision and detail are incredible, especially for something that combines practicality and portability. It's amazing what you can achieve with a 3D printer these days. If you're into creating useful, compact items, I highly recommend giving it a try. There's nothing like holding a finished product that you designed and printed yourself!

Support/Structure Help

Support/Structure Help

Hi everyone,

I am stumped. I'm trying to design/print this pill bottle that has a screw lid, three inner compartments, and a rotating inner lid that exposes one pill section at a time. I cannot figure out how to print this. I tried both tree and regular supports to brace the blue part while printing, but considering they are inside the cannister i can't get them out clean enough so that i can break the supports on the rotating piece so that it spins. Any ideas? Below is a pic of the design and the cross section.

Printing issue

Printing issue

So i designed some objects and sent it to a buddy of mine to print but 3 outta 5 objects are having an issue where it shows that the objects are solid instead of having a hole in them shown in the 2nd picture. The 2nd picture are the objects as how it should be onn my computer. How can we solve this issue as its really important to have the holes in the objects. Tried exporting as both .obj and .stl file and both show the same issue. Does it have something to do with the printer software of the actual file?

CR Touch not probing on my Ender 3

My printer is an Ender 3 and i use a CR Touch for auto bed leveling, it was working just fine, but now it's not probing the 1st point and then stops, raising the bed by the screws would usually work, but it's already on the max high level and it's still not reaching, i'm not sure what i can do to fix this, any advices? I use a compiled Marlin firmware (i compiled myself) and it works just fine, and i always set the z offset with the piece of paper method, and i have the G29 ; Auto bed leveling on my gcodes

I tried the Speed tests in Orca Slicer but Prefer the Tests on Elis's Printer Tuning Guide

I have been looking at the best ways to determine the fastest (and best quality) accelerations and speeds for my 3D printers. I found the tools in Ellis's Print Tuning Guide (https://ellis3dp.com/Print-Tuning-Guide/) helpful. In this video, I review how to run the speed and acceleration tests.
